Fairy Dust Centerpiece

Oh hello!

My...you are such a good looking person...and very kind...and generous...and the perfect size...and you absolutely DO.NOT.HAVE.BIG. THIGHS, they're perfect...for real...Angelina's legs WHAT??? they ain't got nothin on yours...and creativity...pinterest sminterest...if you had an extra hour in your day you could put the pins to shame...and talent, I mean seriously, how much can one person hold in their tiny little petite finger?? ;p

Was that the pick-me-up you needed this week? ;p
Sometimes we need someone that's not our husband/boyfriend, or sister or best friend to just tell us "you pretty much rock!" or just a "thank you" will suffice sometimes. ;p

That actually does lead me to what this post is about...
SPARKLE!
(said Mary Katherine Gallagher aka Superstar way)

One of my 2 readers Sonia Najera asked me for a centerpiece idea. Her daughters' elementary school was having a Daddy/Daughter dance (awww...how sweet) & the theme was "Daddy's Little Princess." She wanted to stay away from the Disney princess theme but they were on a very, very tight budget. This was an idea I thought of for her.

Materials:

Glasses from Goodwill or
Old baby food jars, salsa jars and/or pasta sauce jars

Glitter of your choice
Glitter Glue (I'm sure you can use most glue for this but I used Martha Stewart's)

Start by covering the outside of your glass in glue. Try & make sure it's as even as possible.

Once you've glued your glass guzzle it in the glittery glitter.
Sorry...
I have this love of alliteration. It's a sickness.

You could sprinkle the glitter on but it worked faster for me to pour the glitter on a paper plate & start it rollin.
Rollin on the glitter...rollin...rollin....rollin on the glitter. These big glasses started shinin, yeah...they were lookin fine (an)...and they were rollin (I'm making up new words to Proud Mary). Sorry...I'm posting this way too late! ;p

Ta-da! :-) Now THAT's something Mary would be proud of. ;p

I used three different colors of glitter. The white one didn't give me that shimmer I really wanted but it still looked pretty grouped with the rest of them.

Those silver confetti pieces are actually made from foil!

I took a small piece of foil & folded it a couple times then used my hole punch to make the confetti.

I was kinda digging what I was left with! Wanna start a foil bracelet trend? ;p

I filled all the sparkly centerpieces or you could call them fairy dust centerpieces...whatever floats your shimmer, with candles.

They made the table feel really special & girly & princess-ey. :-)

So...there you have it people...a cheap & easy centerpiece idea.

I can't wait to share with you what I'm doing this weekend! :-) I'll give you a hint...I'm gonna need to dig out my gloves & scarf! (If you don't live in Atlanta...it's been quite a warm winter)

Couple o' things -

1) I'm on Twitter...I just found out that Carrie Underwood just joined so I don't feel like a complete behind the times loser. ;p It took me awhile. ;p You can follow Parties for Pennies @Parties4Pennies & my personal twitter @HeidiRew

Weekend Wrap Party

Hi! Hope you had a great weekend! I bet it was more exciting than mine! ;p

This weekend, Mike (my hottie husband) & I had to work on Saturday. Besides work we ran some errands, watched church online (Buckhead/Northpoint), worked around the house & had a friend over for dinner Saturday.

These are just some snapshots I took over the weekend.

Since we don't have kids yet, we tend to play show & tell with our dog, Guinness. He's an only dog so he loves the attention. :p

Just an FYI...if you ever meet Guinnes...this is his cue for you to rub his belly. ;p

Okay, sorry. Enough of Guinness.

The moon looked so gorgeous Saturday night!

The reason we were outside was because Mike was cookin up these babies!

This was our conversation on Friday -

Mike: Hey babe...you know what I'm really craving for Saturday night?
Steak! (said in a really excited, giddy voice)
Heidi: Babe...is there any night you're NOT craving steak?
Mike: hmmm...good point

:p

It was a wonderful meal with great company! Notice Guinness in the back ground licking his lips! ;p

Come back Wednesday for a sparkly party project!

And...Parties for Pennies finally has a facebook fan page! Grab yourself a snack & give P4P some "like" action!

Have a fab Monday!

Weekend Wrap Party

Hey there! I hope you had a great weekend!

It was pretty busy for us & kinda left us wanting one more day before work. But don't we all wish that sometimes/most times? ;p

Mike (the hott hubby) & I did something really awesome this past weekend! We've been raising money for Special Olympics Georgia for the Polar Plunge event they have here at Lake Lanier. Mike & I had a competition. Whoever had the least amount of people on their team, had to jump in at the Polar Plunge. Guess who had the least amount of people? Mike. ;p

I honestly didn't even care whether or not I had to go in or not. I really love what Special Olympics GA does & it's especially important to me because my youngest brother Clayton was born with Apertsyndrome. He's my buddy! He's so funny, smart and is such a joy to our whole family!

These are the pictures from our time at the Polar Plunge. If you feel compelled to help Special Olympics GA, they are always looking for volunteers & donations. You can visit their website here

That's myself & Mike with the Fish promotions team. If you hadn't noticed...I have a chicken hat on! :p

There were lots of "plungers" that came in costume...

Where's Waldo?

These two atheletes weren't only good at sports...they were dancin up a storm!
I'm not gonna lie...I got some dance moves from em & I can't wait to bust em out!

See...what'd I tell you?

This is my friend Rea! She is one of the funniest, sweetest girls you'll ever meet! She even brought me some sweet gifts on my birthday!

This is Annie, Little Miss Dacula. She is pretty on the outside but also on the outside. She's only, I think, 11 years old but has logged TONS of community service hours. Such a precious girl!

This is my hottie husband, Mike & Stu (a marketing rep at the radio station)...the brave ones that took the dip first!

See...here's the proof...fully submerged!

Back to dry land & a warm towell!

This is Mike & myself with Paige Copeland. She babysat me when I was a little girl & is the sweetest most joy-filled person you'll ever meet!

If you've just started following Parties4Pennies, first of all...thank you. Second, I really do post about parties but I've started doing a weekend wrap party. I tell you about my weekend & I'd love to hear about yours too!

Check back this Wednesday for a post about a Curious George Party!

Have a great week!

Service Bday Party

I switched things up on you a little this week. I did my party project on Monday & saved my weekend recap for today. See Monday's post on how to DIY Apothecary Jars here

I celebrated a birthday last week. My husband surprised me & got me a Cricut! I can't wait to play around with it. If anyone has one & has any tips, I'd love to hear them!

Last year my birthday was a big sha-bang...it was a surprise party & when Mike popped the question. This year, I wanted to do something a little different. I told Mike all I wanted was for my family & myself to do a service project together. I'd volunteered at My Sisters House here in Atlanta before & love what they do.

We were all able to paint one of their classrooms this past Saturday! It was so fun! It was wonderful to help  serve someone else with some of the people I love.

Here are a lot of pictures from Saturday, with a little commentary (well...at least the names of who you are seeing).

This is the BEFORE picture. When they requested a "more soothing color," I completely understood why when I walked into the room! ;p

There are two more classrooms that are this color & if I had unlimited energy, I would've loved to paint the other two as well! I don't think I could concentrate in a room this neon green! :p

This is in the middle of the transformation...

These are my brothers...Ned (left) & Clayton (right). Both of them are hilarious & so brilliant!

And this is them in their natural state! :p

This is my sister Meg & her boyfriend David. They're a really great couple & so much fun!

I'm making sure he's doing a good job! ;p It seems like in most relationships if one person prefers rolling (when painting) the other prefers trim. Do you agree? Mike is AWESOME at rolling. :-)

This is my friend, Kathy & her boyfriend Drew. Kathy & I met through spin class. :-)

I'm like 5'3.5" & I, of all people, forgot to bring a step ladder! :p I improvised...that's we shortys have to do! ;p

My sister took this picture & I just noticed my brother Ned is "holding the wall up"! ;p

Here's the whole group. My dad & mom are in the front & you've seen the rest of the group.

Here's the AFTER.

You think this is a little more soothing?? :p

This was a wonderful birthday! Hope you're
having a wonderful week & had a great Valentines Day!

Weekend Wrap Party

Hey there! This was intending to be a "Weekend Swap Party" but no one wanted to swap with me. :-( I still would LOVE to hear a highlight of your weekend so please feel free to share in the comments! If you want to share the your highlight of the coming weekend, just email me: heidi@heidirew.com

The highlight of this past weekend was lunch at a place called Serenbe outside of Atlanta in Palmetto, Ga. My dad took me for my birthday.

You may have heard of Serenbe because HGTV has built a dream home there. While we were exploring today, we stumbled upon it.

It looked beautiful from the outside & I'm sure on the inside as well. HGTV was actually filming so we weren't allowed to go inside. One of the producers, Richard, was really kind to us & took a break from his lunch to say hello.

Am I the only geek that would actually take a picture of the HGTV van?? ;p

It turned out to be a gorgeous day! We were driving around with the windows down.

We ate at the Farmhouse at Serenbe. Their menu changes every weekend depending on what is fresh from the garden.

Due to the recommendation of our waitress, I ended up going with the fried chicken. Ummm...I am a Southern girl. I have had a lot of fried chicken in my life. This. was. the. BEST. fried chicken I have ever tasted! It was soo juicy & so tender. The sides (cabbage & mashed potatoes) were having a party in my tummy as well. Yum!

The sun was so bright we had a hard time getting a decent picture. :-( But we were happy for the sun...

We stopped by a bakery after lunch but just ended up getting some coffee. They were having a cupcake sale....$1/cupcake...but they had already ran out of cupcakes for the day. My tummy was sad but my thighs were happy. ;p

It was a great afternoon. Awesome conversation with my dad who is just an incredible father, fun time catching up with old friends at my parents church, out of this world meal & a fun little adventure to Serenbe

Oh...the team I was rooting for won! Hope you had an awesome weekend as well!

Stop by this Wednesday for a money-saving version of a cupcake carrier!

Homemade Koozies

Need a great party favor for the big game this weekend?
This would make a great party favor & will help you keep your furniture "ring free"!

Homemade Game Day Koozies

You don't need a whole lot. Some foam board from your local craft store, heavy duty glue (Gorilla glue recommended) & any embellishments you would like (I printed out team helmets from the computer).

First of all..."Promegranate Soda" seems like the least manly/sportsy drink ever. Oops. ;p

Use a can or bottle & trace the bottom onto the foam.

See measurements below...

Doesn't it look like one of those space ships from Star Wars?

This was probably the trickiest part of the whole project. I used a couple of "weights" to hold down the sides as I glued them.

Insert cold drink & enjoy! :-)

Hope you have an awesome Game Day weekend! If you'd like to participate in the Weekend Swap Party this weekend, email me at: heidi@heidirew.com
